"the essential rip off!"
Like many others, I financially backed the essential - formerly 'move' a couple of years ago. There were promises of many benefits for early supporters.

To date, I have received absolutely nothing in return for my support. No response to many emails sent to support.

Don't know what's going on here but the essential seem like a really shady and incompetent business. 👎

"Great products, if they ever arrive..."
I echo the issues a lot of people are having. I've been a member since their launch, and as of yesterday, Nov 10 2022, their ordering and fulfillment is still a mess. I had orders arrive with spoiled product (fruit), wrong and/or missing items, and promotions that they advertise then aren't billed correctly. The only reason I'm giving two stars, is because, when they do get it right, and the right item arrives on time, they are generally very good. BUT the times they get everything right are few and far between.

"Great selection!!"
My son signed me up with this company. I love the selection of food, I can find very unique quality products. Wagyu beef, ground lamb and a yummy selection of Indian dishes. Too top it off, I ordered a set of new wine glass and wine, yes wine too. It took a few days to receive my order but it was worth it. I'm ordering weekly now, it's like Christmas every week.

"Never ever order from The Essential"
I wish I could give this company .00001 of a single star. They time and time again dropped the ball on inventory and shipping. I've waited as long as 5 months for a product and was refunded multiple times for products that they sold me but didn't even have. Never, ever, ever order from this company unless you want to rip your hair out from pure and utter frustration.

"Great company with great products"
I came across The Essential earlier in the year. After stalking the site for months, I caved and purchased a membership. I was pleasantly surprised as I had thought they had a handful of home and food products, but they have new drops almost every day. I've had my membership for a couple months now and it has been well used- can't rave about this company enough to my friends and family!

"Awesome waterproof backpack"
Wanted to give props to on the Roll-top backpack. I've been needing or should I say wanting a waterproof backpack to take kayaking. This bag is priced perfectly and lets me kayak in piece knowing that my stuff will be dry.

"Loving my new sofa"
Loving my new sofa. I was a little concerned with the good pricing compared to your typical furniture store. Not being able to see it or try it first. The quality and comfort of the sofa met all expectations and hops. Quality and pricing is amazing, so surprised.

"Products are fantastic in quality"
Products are fantastic in quality, many of which are a great value. I have been a member since the very beginning and never had a particularly bad experience. They're a startup - and I have had a suboptimal order here/there. But that said, they have always been quick to fix any issues and lately the products have been outstanding and simply a fantastic value.

Have ordered from move or the essential well over 50 times since kick starter. the food is great the shipping and customer service SUCKS.
Out of all my orders 2 have been complete many have arrived stupidly destroyed and ruined.
Customer service is lacking to say the least especially lately.

"Stopped responding out of nowhere, several items pending"
Ridiculous that they just stopped responding to me, no matter how much I email them. I've even tweeted at the founder! They were actually great until they weren't, and then they were terrible.

"I really want to like this company"
I really want to like this company. Love the idea. I know it’s a startup and that there are kinks to be worked out. I’d like to say I love the product but have only received 2 items which were a good value for the price I paid. But I have ordered several items (close to $500 total which is not a lot for the supposed value - but shipping is a nightmare)
My first order was placed May 13. I have been charged for an item that was supposed to ship in June. Well here we are July 21 and no item.
My second order was placed May 29 - 2 items - only 1 shipped arrived great and love it - the other item is “preparing to ship”. For almost 2 months.
What is really annoying is - NO communication.
No updates on their side at all. - YOU HAVE MY MONEY. I’m less annoyed that it didn’t ship on time. I get the world is in a logistics nightmare at the moment. I’m more annoyed that considering I’ve paid for everything UPFRONT the communication is lacking.
Other companies don’t charge until item is shipped if there is a delay in shipping-but your a startup I understand.
My initial inquiry email was promptly addressed, but when the June deadline was missed - it’s been crickets. I’ve sent 2 emails and no reply. When you miss a shipping window - why do I have to follow up. Why are you not proactively keeping me up to date - you have my money!! Why are there no shipping estimates on the other items. You have to have an idea otherwise how are you managing your inventory and cash flow?
The automated monthly email and membership charge seems to work just fine though. :| I’ve placed a few more orders since May - only partially shipped. I’ll see how those products are delivered before cancelling.
If you reply to this review asking me to email you - I already have. please Reply to that! I will update this review once I receive my items.

"Just say no"
Backed the company on Kickstarter. There were a lot of growing pains. Like most others here, I had billing issues, fulfillment issues, ordering issues, etc. A quick note, this is a membership. So, they want you to pay $95/year to not get what you ordered, or be billed twice for the same thing. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. These guys are not ready for primetime and the frustration of dealing with them is not worth some decent off brand pesto sauce.

"Terrible customer service"
Update:
I'm changing my rating to one star - it's been three weeks now and we still have not received a single email response to my inquiries about the below. The product is fine, customer service is complete garbage. I would return the chairs at this point if anyone would even answer me, but I'll probably have to place an order (with them, which sucks) for the correct cushion cover and figure out how to build the chair with our own hardware. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM HERE.

Original:
We were so excited for our chairs to arrive - the first was perfect, correct color, came with hardware, etc. The second showed up without hardware and is the wrong color. I've emailed multiple times at this point and although I'm getting constantly spammed to buy other stuff, not a peep from customer service about correcting our order. It's a bit frustrating and at this point I wouldn't order from them again.
